Nearly 120 Patient and Provider Groups Urge Congress to Protect the Six Protected Classes Policy

On May 29, 2026, t​he Partnership for Part D Access and a coalition of nearly 120 patient advocacy organizations, clinician groups, and health care stakeholders sent a letter to congressional leaders urging them to oppose the CMS Guarding U.S. Medicare Against Rising Drug Costs (GUARD) Model and defend Medicare’s six protected classes policy. The letter highlights the model's potential to raise costs for beneficiaries, weaken patient protections, and threaten innovation.
